Bakso gulung (meat roll soup)

In my whole life, I could only find one single restaurant in my hometown in Indonesia which served this soup. So this is my own version of the tasty soup. It's actually a simple recipe -- only quite lengthy. It's worth a try if you have extra time.

Ingredients:
Meat roll:
minced chicken breast meat
thin omelette sheets
fried shallot
chopped carrot
salt
pepper
egg
Soup:
oil
chicken broth
minced garlic
salt
pepper
chopped celery
chopped spring onion
fried shallot

Directions:
Meat roll:
1. Combine salt, pepper, fried shallot, egg, and carrot. Stir in minced chicken, mixing well.
2. Spread some of the meat mixture on an omelette sheet to form a thin layer. Roll, and squeeze tight.
3. Wrap in banana leaf or kitchen foil.
4. Steam for 45 minutes.
5. Let cool, then slice into 1.5-2cm slices.

Soup:
1. Heat oil in a soup pot.
2. Add garlic. Sautee until soft. Do not brown.
3. Stir in chicken broth, salt, pepper, spring onion and celery.
4. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, then allow to simmer for a few minutes.
5. Add the meat roll after the soup is done. Garnish with fried shallot.
